If you’ve been in your home for a decade or more, chances are you have replaced or done a major service on your central air system. There are many reasons to be proactive about evaluating whether your system should be replaced this year, or whether to wait until it fails and replace it then. Here’s why to be proactive.
1. You can design the system you want ahead of time, before the really bad heat and humidity sets in.
2. If you buy a system in the off-season (January, February or March), you’re likely to find a discount as long as work is completed before the beginning of April.
3. You have more choice and selection in system efficiencies, whether or not to add zoning, humidifier options, etc. If you wait for a crisis, you’ll need a system installed ASAP and you’ may have to settle for installing what’s available. This is a big investment, and you want to make a choice when you’re not under pressure.
4. You can watch for manufacturers’ specials, which run from time to time throughout the year. Planning ahead will help you catch a special while it’s running.
